Blog Week 5
Research around the globe.
This week we are to explore the topics of research
in other countries. To do this we were given
some web sites to look at. I chose http://www.ecdvu.org/ssa/major_reports.php
from the school of child development and care from the University of
Victoria. These papers are the master’s in
early childhood development thesis from students in Africa. Some of the topics for review were some of
the same as I have seen here. Studying the effects of being in a rural location
on early childhood development, training for “informal minders” and community
volunteers in early childhood development. Studying parental involvement in
early childcare and education. The study of different early childhood models on
preschool readiness in Kenya. Like here in the US it was studying the public vs
the private model of preschool on school readiness. The subjects were 5 and 6
years old. The method of data collection
was through teachers assessments using the School Readiness Assessment Instrument. Outcomes of the study also measured the
correlation with developmentally appropriate practice in different pre-schools
though the use of observation and interview. The finding were that the focus of
the curriculum take a more holistic approach and veer away from the academic
focus of the programs. The findings were that it is recommended that a more
holistic approach be taken in early childhood programs in order for the the
children to be made ready for school. (Ngaruiva,S 1991)

ReplyDeleteThank you for the information. I like to see how parents are being provided resources and support in to be influential in their child's development.
WOW i'm so fascinated to see that some organizations are focusing on parental involvements in education these days. school readiness is also another important topic that we have been focusing on in our courses and i realize how important it is now that i am more familiar with it.
